The council are now undertaking a second phase of public consultation to review the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils (the Scheme).
During the first phase of consultation, in November 2018, public views were sought on the proposals to change the current Scheme – these proposals were set out in a Draft Scheme.
Further changes to the proposals have now been published in an Amended Draft Scheme.
These changes include the removal of the proposal to introduce a Community Council Complaint Procedure and Guidance and the introduction of a new proposal that will allow candidates for election or co-option to self-nominate; effectively removing the need for each candidate for membership to be proposed and seconded by other residents. It is hoped this particular change will help attract members by making it easier to join.
